Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul #3 runs into Washington Wizards forward Nene #42, from Brazil, in the first half of an NBA basketball game in Washington on Friday, Dec. ...

Washington's Wall controlled the game with 10 points and 11 assists while Paul struggled with a season-high six turnovers. Paul made some late baskets to finish with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

The Wizards remained level with Atlanta, which beat Orlando to push its own winning streak to nine games, while other key results saw Chicago notch an overdue win at Portland and New Orleans win an entertaining contest against Cleveland.

AP and AFP--Washington's John Wall outplayed Los Angeles' Chris Paul in their first meeting of the season, helping the hosts win 104-96 on Friday, keeping the Wizards in a share of the Southeast Division lead while ending the Clippers' nine-game winning streak.

Bradley Beal scored a season-high 29 points for the Wizards.

Chicago's Derrick Rose scored a season-high 31 points to lead the Bulls to a 115-106 win at Portland.

The Bulls had lost their previous seven games against the Trail Blazers.

Rose, who tore the meniscus in his right knee against the Blazers last season, scored over 30 for the first time in three seasons. He shot 14 of 24.

LaMarcus Aldridge scored 21 of his 35 points in the first quarter, his 10 field goals in the period matching a Portland record set by Darius Miles in 2005.

Damian Lillard also had 35 for the Trail Blazers.

Atlanta beat Orlando 87-81, with its nine-game streak being the longest run by the Hawks since winning 11 on the trot in the 1997-98 season.

Paul Millsap scored 23 points and Al Horford added 17 for the Hawks.

Michael Oladipo scored 21 points to top the scoring for the Magic.

New Orleans overcame the loss of Anthony Davis to record a 119-114 victory over Cleveland.

Davis left in the first quarter after taking an elbow to chest while jostling for position during a free throw.

Tyreke Evans 31 points and 10 assists while Ryan Anderson tied a career high with eight 3-pointers on his way to 30 points for the Pelicans.

LeBron James, back after missing a game with knee soreness, scored 41 points for the Cavaliers, who were 19 points down in the fourth quarter.

Memphis' Mike Conley scored six of his 19 points in the second overtime, guiding the Grizzlies to a 113-107 win against Charlotte.

Zach Randolph had 20 points for the Grizzlies, who got a tying 3-pointer from Vince Carter with 4.5 seconds left in the first overtime to force another period.

The Grizzlies won for the sixth time in the past seven games against the Hornets, who got 28 points from Kemba Walker and 25 from Gary Neal.

Toronto beat Indiana 106-94, inflicting a seventh straight loss on the Pacers.

Jonas Valanciunas had 10 points and 14 rebounds while Lou Williams scored 26 for the Eastern Conference-leading Raptors.

Solomon Hill scored 16 for the Pacers, whose seven-game skid is their longest for five years.

The Los Angeles Lakers star came into Friday's NBA game needing 31 points to pass Hall of Famer Michael Jordan for third place on the NBA's all-time scoring list as he seeks to finally escape Jordan's shadow.

But Bryant could only manage 22 points on seven-of-22 shooting and had a game-high five turnovers in the Lakers 112-110 overtime victory over the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.

Nick Young bailed the Lakers out Friday by nailing a desperation three pointer with seven seconds left to lift Los Angeles to victory.

“I was so happy I got the ball. I wanted one of those since I got in the league,” Young said. “He (Bryant) is going to pass (Jordan) in the first quarter of next game.

Bryant is now just eight points shy of Jordan (32,292) for third place on the NBA's all-time scoring list.“He's got all year, he's going to be the man all year. Let me have my Tonto role tonight.”

Jordan sits behind Karl Malone (36,928) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387).

Bryant and Jordan faced each other 11 times in their careers — eight during the regular season and three all-star games.

“It is going to come. It is not like it has got to happen tonight. It is going to happen eventually,” Bryant said after the game.

Two plays in the third quarter spelled out the night for Bryant.

His 25-footer from beyond the arc at 7:26 failed to fall but was accidentally tipped into the Spurs basket by San Antonio's Kyle Anderson who was standing under the rim. Forward Davis was the closest Laker to the basket so he got credit for the bucket and not Bryant who took the three-point shot. That was the only two points starter Davis would get on the night.

Then just under three minutes later, with the Lakers leading 69-67, Bryant's short jumper appeared to be going in but it rattled around the rim before spinning backwards and bouncing out of harm's way.

“He didn't shoot the ball particularly well but I attribute that to fatigue. But he is a warrior,” said Lakers coach Byron Scott said of Bryant who played a team-high 40 minutes.

Bryant's struggles in the third left Scott with a tough decision during a Laker time out near the end of the quarter — take Bryant out for his usual late third quarter rest or leave him in even though he was struggling mightily with his shot.

He kept Bryant in for a while longer then pulled him with just under two minutes left in the quarter.

With Bryant on the bench, the Lakers surged to an 11-point lead, 86-75, to finish the quarter.

Brooklyn broke open a close game in the fourth quarter and beat hapless Philadelphia 88-70, with Mason Plumlee scoring a season-high 18 points and having 10 rebounds.

Miami's Dwyane Wade scored a season-high 29 points, including three free throws in the final 9 seconds, to led the Heat to a 100-95 victory over Utah.

Detroit ended a 13-game losing streak by beating Phoenix 105-103, with Andre Drummond having 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Pistons.

Oklahoma City won its fifth-straight game, taking a 111-92 win at Minnesota thanks chiefly to Russell Westbrook scoring 20 of his 34 points in the first half.

New York ended a run of ten straight losses with a 101-95 win at Boston, with Carmelo Anthony scoring 22 points for the Knicks.
