TAIPEI--University students from Taiwan and Japan are discussing a wide range of issues that will have a major impact on the two countries' futures during a week-long conference in Taipei that ends Aug. 22.
A total of 89 students are participating in the annual event aimed at promoting exchanges between the two countries, said the meeting's organizer, the Taiwan Japan Student Conference under National Taiwan University on Sunday.
In its ninth year, the gathering this year will focus on environmental, educational, economic and social issues, the organizers said.
Discussion topics include the development of the sex industry, the contamination of nuclear power plants and Taiwan's free economic pilot zones, it said.
The conference is aimed at encouraging Taiwanese and Japanese students to share perspectives and experiences from their own country and discuss issues related to future development, the organizers said.
