20:1 | [hb5] | 酒 能 使 人 褻 慢 、 濃 酒 使 人 喧 嚷 . 凡 因 酒 錯 誤 的 、 就 無 智 慧 。 |
[kjv] | Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. | |
[bbe] | Wine makes men foolish, and strong drink makes men come to blows; and whoever comes into error through these is not wise. | |
20:2 | [hb5] | 王 的 威 嚇 如 同 獅 子 吼 叫 . 惹 動 他 怒 的 、 是 自 害 己 命 。 |
[kjv] | The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul. | |
[bbe] | The wrath of a king is like the loud cry of a lion: he who makes him angry does wrong against himself. | |
20:3 | [hb5] | 遠 離 分 爭 是 人 的 尊 榮 . 愚 妄 人 都 愛 爭 鬧 。 |
[kjv] | It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling. | |
[bbe] | It is an honour for a man to keep from fighting, but the foolish are ever at war. | |
20:4 | [hb5] | 懶 惰 人 因 冬 寒 不 肯 耕 種 . 到 收 割 的 時 候 、 他 必 討 飯 、 而 無 所 得 。 |
[kjv] | The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing. | |
[bbe] | The hater of work will not do his ploughing because of the winter; so at the time of grain-cutting he will be requesting food and will get nothing. | |
20:5 | [hb5] | 人 心 懷 藏 謀 略 、 好 像 深 水 . 惟 明 哲 人 、 纔 能 汲 引 出 來 。 |
[kjv] | Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out. | |
[bbe] | The purpose in the heart of a man is like deep water, but a man of good sense will get it out. | |
20:6 | [hb5] | 人 多 述 說 自 己 的 仁 慈 . 但 忠 信 人 誰 能 遇 著 呢 。 |
[kjv] | Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? | |
[bbe] | Most men make no secret of their kind acts: but where is a man of good faith to be seen? | |
20:7 | [hb5] | 行 為 純 正 的 義 人 、 他 的 子 孫 、 是 有 福 的 。 |
[kjv] | The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him. | |
[bbe] | An upright man goes on in his righteousness: happy are his children after him! | |
20:8 | [hb5] | 王 坐 在 審 判 的 位 上 、 以 眼 目 驅 散 諸 惡 。 |
[kjv] | A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes. | |
[bbe] | A king on the seat of judging puts to flight all evil with his eyes. | |
20:9 | [hb5] | 誰 能 說 、 我 潔 淨 了 我 的 心 . 我 脫 淨 了 我 的 罪 。 |
[kjv] | Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? | |
[bbe] | Who is able to say, I have made my heart clean, I am free from my sin? | |
20:10 | [hb5] | 兩 樣 的 法 碼 、 兩 樣 的 升 斗 、 都 為 耶 和 華 所 憎 惡 。 |
[kjv] | Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD. | |
[bbe] | Unequal weights and unequal measures, they are all disgusting to the Lord. | |
20:11 | [hb5] | 孩 童 的 動 作 、 是 清 潔 、 是 正 直 、 都 顯 明 他 的 本 性 。 |
[kjv] | Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. | |
[bbe] | Even a child may be judged by his doings, if his work is free from sin and if it is right. | |

[kjv] | The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. | |

[kjv] | Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. | |
[bbe] | Do not be a lover of sleep, or you will become poor: keep your eyes open, and you will have bread enough. | |

[kjv] | Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel. | |
[bbe] | Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but after, his mouth will be full of sand. | |
20:18 | [hb5] | 計 謀 都 憑 籌 算 立 定 . 打 仗 要 憑 智 謀 。 |
[kjv] | Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war. | |
[bbe] | Every purpose is put into effect by wise help: and by wise guiding make war. | |
20:19 | [hb5] | 往 來 傳 舌 的 、 洩 漏 密 事 . 大 張 嘴 的 不 可 與 他 結 交 。 |
[kjv] | He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips. | |
[bbe] | He who goes about talking of the business of others gives away secrets: so have nothing to do with him whose lips are open wide. | |
20:20 | [hb5] | 咒 罵 父 母 的 、 他 的 燈 必 滅 、 變 為 漆 黑 的 黑 暗 。 |
[kjv] | Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. | |
[bbe] | If anyone puts a curse on his father or his mother, his light will be put out in the blackest night. | |
20:21 | [hb5] | 起 初 速 得 的 產 業 、 終 久 卻 不 為 福 。 |
[kjv] | An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed. | |
[bbe] | A heritage may be got quickly at first, but the end of it will not be a blessing. | |
20:22 | [hb5] | 你 不 要 說 、 我 要 以 惡 報 惡 . 要 等 候 耶 和 華 、 他 必 拯 救 你 。 |
[kjv] | Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee. | |
[bbe] | Do not say, I will give punishment for evil: go on waiting for the Lord, and he will be your saviour. | |
20:23 | [hb5] | 兩 樣 的 法 碼 、 為 耶 和 華 所 憎 惡 . 詭 詐 的 天 平 、 也 為 不 善 。 |
[kjv] | Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good. | |
[bbe] | Unequal weights are disgusting to the Lord, and false scales are not good. | |
20:24 | [hb5] | 人 的 腳 步 為 耶 和 華 所 定 . 人 豈 能 明 白 自 己 的 路 呢 。 |
[kjv] | Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way? | |
[bbe] | A man's steps are of the Lord; how then may a man have knowledge of his way? | |
20:25 | [hb5] | 人 冒 失 說 、 這 是 聖 物 、 許 願 之 後 纔 查 問 、 就 是 自 陷 網 羅 。 |
[kjv] | It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry. | |
[bbe] | It is a danger to a man to say without thought, It is holy, and, after taking his oaths, to be questioning if it is necessary to keep them. | |
20:26 | [hb5] | 智 慧 的 王 、 簸 散 惡 人 、 用 碌 碡 滾 軋 他 們 。 |
[kjv] | A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them. | |
[bbe] | A wise king puts evil-doers to flight, and makes their evil-doing come back on them. | |
20:27 | [hb5] | 人 的 靈 是 耶 和 華 的 燈 、 鑒 察 人 的 心 腹 。 |
[kjv] | The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. | |
[bbe] | The Lord keeps watch over the spirit of man, searching all the deepest parts of the body. | |
20:28 | [hb5] | 王 因 仁 慈 和 誠 實 、 得 以 保 全 他 的 國 位 、 也 因 仁 慈 立 穩 。 |
[kjv] | Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy. | |
[bbe] | Mercy and good faith keep the king safe, and the seat of his power is based on upright acts. | |
20:29 | [hb5] | 強 壯 乃 少 年 人 的 榮 耀 . 白 髮 為 老 年 人 的 尊 榮 。 |
[kjv] | The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head. | |
[bbe] | The glory of young men is their strength, and the honour of old men is their grey hairs. | |
20:30 | [hb5] | 鞭 傷 除 淨 人 的 罪 惡 . 責 打 能 入 人 的 心 腹 。 |
[kjv] | The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly. | |
[bbe] | By the wounds of the rod evil is taken away, and blows make clean the deepest parts of the body. |
