Weather Bureau continues to issue torrential rain alert氣象局繼續發布暴雨警報

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) continued to issue a torrential rain alert to Southern Taiwan including Tainan City, Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County, saying that the heavy rain caused by a southwesterly current will last until Aug. 13. In addition, part of Central Taiwan and Penghu may also be hit by torrential rain in upcoming days.

Under the influence of the current, many places have been hit by torrential rain since yesterday morning. According to statistics from the CWB, in some areas of Kaohsiung damaged by the gas explosion incident, the accumulated rainfall reached 130 millimeters in six hours between midnight and dawn.

The CWB reminded citizens to prepare for potential flooding due to torrential rainfall in the next few days. The Water Resources Agency also issued a level one flooding alert in Gushan District, Kaohsiung City as well as a level two alert in Sanmin District, Cianjin District, Lingya District, Sinsing District and Yancheng District in Kaohsiung City as well as Liuqiu Township in Pingtung County.

According to the CWB, weather conditions will be similar throughout next week. As the southwesterly current keeps sending water vapor to Taiwan, the weather will become less stable. The CWB reminded citizens in Central Taiwan and Southern Taiwan to prepare for possible damage caused by the rain. In addition, the force of the current may also influence the mountain area, causing more rainfall over an extended period of time. Therefore, citizens should avoid mountain activities on these days.

In addition, due to the effect of the current, it is possible that rough sea conditions may appear around the coastline in Southwestern Taiwan and Hengchun Peninsula. The CWB noted that citizens should be more cautious about the potential danger from huge waves.

The CWB also pointed out that although the force of the southwesterly current will wane after Aug. 14, the southwesterly winds will continue to blow. Therefore, showers and thunderstorms will still be expected in the following days.

此外，由於電流的作用，有可能是粗糙的海況下可能會出現在身邊台灣西南部及恆春半島的海岸線。中央氣象局指出，市民應約從巨浪中潛在的危險更加謹慎。

中央氣象局也指出，儘管目前西南的力量將8月14日以後減弱的西南風會繼續吹。因此，陣雨和雷陣雨仍然會在接下來的幾天預期。
