Sideways《
Jack: Tastes pretty good to me. Hmm. Look. They have a reserve pinot.
Miles: Let me use your phone.
Jack: What's up?
Miles: I can't take it anymore. I gotta call Evelyn.
Jennifer: Evelyn Berman-Silverman's office.
Miles: Hi, Jennifer. It's Miles again.
Jennifer: Oh, hi, Miles.
Miles: Hi.
Jennifer: Let me see if l can get her.
Miles: Okay.
Jennifer: You're in luck. I'll put you through.
Miles: Okay.
Evelyn: Hi, Miles.
Miles: Hi, Evelyn. It's your favorite client.
Evelyn: How's the trip?
Miles: Oh, it's good, it's good. You know, we're drinking some good wines, kicking back. It's very nice.
Evelyn: Right.
Miles: So what's happening? There's still no word, huh?
Evelyn: Well, actually, there is word. I spoke to Keith Kurtzman this morning.
Miles: Right. And?
Evelyn: And… they're passing. Conundrum's passing. He said they really liked it. They really wanted to do it, but they just couldn't figure out how to market it. He said it was a really tough call.
Miles: Oh. Right.
Evelyn: I'm sorry, Miles. So I don't know where that leaves us. I'm not sure how much more mileage I can get out of continuing to submit it. I think it's one of those unfortunate cases in the business right now—a, a fabulous book with no home. The whole industry's gotten gutless. It's not about the quality of the books anymore. It's only about the marketing.
Miles: Excuse me. Could I get a, uh, pour down here, please?
Waiter: Sure. There's a, uh, special on the Syrah by the case.
Miles: Hit me again. Thanks. Excuse me. Could you just pour me a full glass? I'll pay for it.
Waiter: Sir, this is a winery, not a bar.
Miles: Oh. Just give me a full goddamn pour.
1. I can't take it anymore.
John didn't take his punishment very well.
2. in luck
You're in luck--we found your car keys.
3. I'll put you through.
4. kick back
這裡的 kick back 意思是“to relax 放鬆”,比如:Let's just kick back and enjoy the weekend.
5. There's still no word
Any word on your promotion?
6. They’re passing
The motion to adjourn passed.
7. Hit me again.
